Cleaning & finishes
Clean painted walls gently
Paint sheen and product affect washability. Flat and matte finishes need a gentler touch than satin, semi-gloss and gloss finishes.
Recommended timingSpot-clean as needed
What to do
- Dust first, then test the cleaning method in a hidden area.
- Begin with a soft nonabrasive sponge and warm water; use a small amount of mild dish soap only when needed.
- Dab or wipe gently rather than scrubbing, rinse with a clean damp cloth and dry with a soft towel.
- Avoid abrasive sponges and harsh cleaners. Benjamin Moore recommends allowing newly painted walls about two weeks to cure before washing.
- Keep leftover paint labeled with room, color, product and sheen for compatible touchups.
