Care for laminate counters

Laminate surfaces tolerate routine cleaning well, but seams, edges, heat and abrasion are common damage points.

What to do

  1. Clean with a damp soft cloth or sponge and mild detergent, then dry the surface and seams.
  2. Avoid abrasive powders, scouring pads and cleaners not approved by the laminate manufacturer.
  3. Use cutting boards and trivets; keep hot cookware and heat-producing appliances off the laminate.
  4. Wipe standing water promptly around sinks, seams and edge banding so moisture does not reach the substrate.
