Inspect flexible water-supply lines and appliance hoses
Small flexible connectors can release a large amount of water when they split, loosen or corrode. Regular visual checks should include every accessible water-using fixture and appliance.
Recommended timingEvery 3 months and whenever appliances move
What to do
- Inspect accessible connectors at toilets, sinks, washing machines, refrigerators, dishwashers and other water-using equipment for moisture, corrosion, kinks, abrasion, bulging or cracking.
- Keep hoses from rubbing sharp edges, being crushed behind appliances or carrying the weight of valves and piping.
- After moving an appliance, slowly restore water and watch every disturbed connection for leakage.
- Replace a damaged connector immediately and follow its manufacturer for service life; age alone is not the only failure indicator.
- Know the nearby shutoff location and use a qualified plumber when a valve is stuck, corroded or difficult to operate—never force it.
Shut off the water and arrange prompt professional service for active leakage or a visibly failing connector.
