Water heating
Maintain a tankless water heater
Tankless equipment can collect mineral scale and debris. The interval and procedure depend on the model, water hardness, usage and treatment system.
Recommended timingInspect regularly; descale by manual and water conditions
What to do
- Keep the model-specific manual and follow its schedule for inlet-screen cleaning, descaling, condensate care and professional service.
- Check exterior vents and combustion-air openings for snow, lint, nests or debris without dismantling the vent system.
- Arrange descaling at the interval required by the manufacturer and local water conditions; Rinnai generally advises at least annual flushing.
- Have a qualified technician inspect gas, combustion, venting, condensate, electrical and freeze-protection components as applicable.
- Record water-treatment changes, service dates and error codes with the home records.
Do not improvise a descaling procedure or work on fuel, venting or energized components. Use the exact manual or a qualified service provider.
