Maintain the microwave and vent filters
Over-the-range microwave filters are part of the kitchen ventilation path. Countertop units do not have the same filter tasks.
Recommended timingClean spills as needed; grease filter monthly
What to do
- Wipe interior spills promptly with a soft cloth and mild dish soap; keep the waveguide cover and door-seal area clean and undamaged.
- For an over-the-range unit, clean reusable grease filters monthly or as the model manual directs.
- Replace a recirculating charcoal filter when the manual or indicator requires; Whirlpool commonly recommends about every six months.
- Keep exterior vents clear and stop using a unit with a damaged door, latch, seal or arcing inside.
