Clean and check sliding or patio doors

Clean tracks, working rollers, clear drainage paths and sound weatherstripping help patio doors operate smoothly and limit air or water entry.

What to do

  1. Vacuum loose grit from the sill and track, then wipe with a soft damp cloth and the cleaner permitted by the door manufacturer.
  2. Keep sill weep holes and drainage paths clear without drilling new openings or forcing tools into concealed parts.
  3. Inspect weatherstripping, screens, locks, handles and visible rollers for wear, looseness or damage.
  4. Use only the lubricant and adjustment procedure specified for the exact door; some tracks should be clean and dry rather than oiled.
  5. Have cracked glass, a dragging panel, failed locks, persistent leakage or unsafe adjustment work handled by a qualified door or glass professional.
