Clean and inspect metal siding

Metal wall panels generally need little maintenance, but damaged finishes, incompatible fasteners and trapped contaminants can accelerate corrosion.

Recommended timingEvery 6–12 months

What to do

  1. Inspect panels, seams, flashings and fasteners for dents, looseness, coating damage, corrosion and contact with incompatible metals.
  2. Rinse loose soil and use mild soap with soft tools only when the panel or coating manufacturer allows it.
  3. Avoid excessive pressure, abrasive pads and unapproved solvents that can degrade or change the finish.
  4. Keep sprinklers, vegetation, deicing salts and wet debris away from the panels, and maintain sealant at openings and transitions.
  5. Use manufacturer-approved touch-up and repair methods; large dents, open seams or corrosion belong to a metal-cladding professional.
