Monitor embedded electric floor or ceiling heat

Embedded electric radiant systems have no moving parts and generally require no recurring service. The thermostat, floor/ceiling finish and electrical protection are the maintainable parts.

Recommended timingNo routine internal maintenance

What to do

  1. Keep the installation plan, resistance readings, thermostat manual and warranty with the home records.
  2. Test any GFCI protection using the manufacturer's test button schedule and confirm the thermostat operates normally before heating season.
  3. Before drilling, fastening, remodeling or changing floor coverings, locate the heating cables and verify product compatibility.
  4. Call the manufacturer or a qualified electrician for cold spots, trips, damaged controls or suspected cable damage.
Safety and service boundary

Do not probe, splice or energize a suspected damaged heating cable. Repairs require qualified electrical and product-specific expertise.
