Clean and check interior ceiling fans

Dust buildup, loose blade hardware and wobble can reduce comfort and stress the fan or its ceiling attachment.

Recommended timingEvery spring and when wobble develops

What to do

  1. Turn the fan off, allow it to stop completely and use stable floor-level tools or appropriate access rather than overreaching.
  2. Dust blades and the motor housing with soft tools while supporting the blade to avoid bending brackets.
  3. With power off, check only accessible blade screws, light shades and pull-chain parts identified in the manual; do not open the electrical canopy.
  4. Use the seasonal direction setting only when the manufacturer provides one and the fan is fully stopped before switching.
  5. Have persistent wobble, noise, a loose ceiling mount, damaged blades or electrical concerns evaluated by a qualified fan installer or electrician.
Safety and service boundary

Do not work from an unstable chair or ladder, and do not disturb ceiling wiring or mounting hardware without appropriate qualification.
