Heating & cooling

Clean electric baseboard heaters

Dust and blocked airflow can create odor, reduce output and overheat electric resistance heaters.

Recommended timingBefore the heating season; more often with pets or dust

What to do

  1. Turn off the correct breaker, verify the heater is de-energized and allow it to cool.
  2. Vacuum dust and lint with a soft brush attachment without bending fins or disturbing wiring.
  3. Keep curtains, furniture, cords, toys and other combustibles outside the manufacturer's clearance zone.
  4. Have a qualified electrician correct damaged covers, controls, wiring or recurring breaker trips.
Safety and service boundary

If you cannot positively verify that power is off, do not remove a cover or grille.
