New grading and landscaping

Recently disturbed soil commonly settles, so drainage paths deserve extra attention during the first year.

Recommended timingMonthly during the first year

What to do

  1. Check that soil continues to slope away from the foundation.
  2. Look after rain and snowmelt for ponding beside the home.
  3. Keep mulch, soil, and irrigation below siding and weep openings.
  4. Photograph meaningful settlement and contact the builder or landscaper promptly when warranty review may apply.
Safety and service boundary

Do not bury siding, vents, window wells, or foundation drainage openings while correcting landscaping.
